This is a South Korean remake of a Japanese movie from 2004. I have seen the Japanese movie twice. It’s a wonderful and solid drama movie with a lot of warmth and love. I was skeptical of the South Korean remake, but the quality pleasantly surprised me.
This is a good and moving interpretation that doesn’t do much wrong. The only negative thing in the movie is the child actor who plays the young son. He’s not good at all. The remake follows the original from A to B after what I can remember. It’s been a few years since I last saw the Japanese movie.
Is there any point in watching the South Korean remake if you’ve seen the original Japanese movie? No, I think this is a movie that is mostly aimed at the South Korean audience. But if it’s been a few years since you last saw the Japanese movie, there’s nothing wrong with watching the South Korean remake. It doesn’t do much wrong, but it’s not as well acted as the Japanese movie and the young child actor in the remake stinks!
