Dune (2021) – English Review

A young man embarks on a journey where he discovers himself and his powers on a dangerous planet. What will become of him?

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve. He has been one of my favorite directors for many years. I just love his style. I have never read the books that have been written about the Dune-universe. And I’ve never seen the 1984 movie directed by David Lynch. I remember I rented it in the 80s, but I just watched it 15 minutes before I turned it off. But now I’m curious to check out that movie, so I guess I have to watch it.

This was a perfect movie for Denise Villeneuve to make. His cinematography has always been so clean and sterile. I’m certain that this is a man who likes to live in a minimalistic home, and if he sees something that doesn’t fit in his home, he will get OCD.

It was so fun to watch a science fiction movie that engaged me again after the disappointing Star Wars movies and the generic boring superhero movies.

The movie is clean as hell. I just love the cinematography, and that the focus is on the actors and mostly that. There’s not much going on in the background. There’s not much in the background either. The score is also fantastic. The movie oozes atmosphere and mystery. Where will this journey take the protagonist?

The actors do a great job. It’s impressive to see how many quality actors there are in this movie. I have to give a lot of praise to Timothée Chalamet. I’ve always liked this actor. He’s a talent out of the ordinary. It’s so fun to watch a talented young man that Hollywood needs since they lack talent these days. Just look at the awful Daisy Ridley in the new Star Wars movies. She stinks! An actor like Timothée Chalamet doesn’t have to speak at all. He looks so evil and mysterious. He has so much charisma that most young actors lack these days. The best ones don’t have to do much talking. They let their body language speak for them.

Dune is a minimalistic movie. The only thing I missed was that I felt the movie didn’t tell us enough about this universe. I was a little disappointed that the villains didn’t get that much screen time. They are a bunch of cool, bad guys! And Stellan Skarsgård looks like a freak!

Dune is a movie I think will be my favorite movie of 2021. The acting is solid, the story is sort of simple but engaging, and the score is fantastic. This is an atmospheric experience with interesting characters and fortunately an interesting protagonist.
