Four assassins live together and they do as assassins do most, they kill people. But then they meet some women, and things get more complicated.
Guns & Talks is a movie I have probably seen three times. It has always been a hidden gem in my eyes that many don’t talk about. But now it’s been around ten years since I last saw the movie. And I have to say that it hasn’t quite stood the test of time.
This isn’t what I would call an action-comedy. There aren’t enough action scenes here. The movie focuses on the relationship between the four assassins and the women they get to know. Besides that, we also follow a cop, and he and the leader of the assassins have some confrontations.
But now I discovered that the script is not of the highest quality. The content is very thin. The movie lives on its charm, and it succeeds with that. But the tone is strange considering that these are four happy assassins who kill people. Some victims deserve to die, but there’s also one person I didn’t understand had to die. And this becomes a problem. It feels wrong to root on these four assassins just because we follow them in their everyday lives.
I remember praising the soundtrack when I reviewed the movie for the first time. I don’t know what I ate. But I don’t think it was healthy for me. The movie has one good song. The song is played when the leader of the assassins and the cop have their scenes together. With the exception of that song, we hear a lot of terrible elevator music. I don’t know what was wrong with me when I loved the soundtrack when I watched the movie for the first time. I must have eaten something bad that clouded my judgment.
The highlight of the movie is the man with the big nose, Shin Hyeon-jun. He’s always solid. I’ve always wondered what happened to him. Suddenly he just disappeared. I see that he has starred in some movies and TV series lately. He’s so good and charismatic!
Guns & Talks is a charming movie, but unfortunately, the script is not that good. The editing is a bit messy, and some scenes end too abruptly.
I loved the movie before, but now I was disappointed even though it entertained me. It’s a charming movie with a lot of twinkle in its eye, but there are too few action scenes here. The characters are very simple and the script feels empty, even with all the characters the movie has.
