A married couple gets a surprise one day when a sheep gives birth to a hybrid sheep/human. They decide to keep it and raise it like it was their own child. But where did it come from?
Lamb is an Icelandic movie that stands out from the crowd. It’s a small movie where we just follow the married couple in their everyday lives. There are no neighbors nearby, so they don’t have to worry that someone will discover that they have adopted the creepy hybrid human/sheep.
The movie burns slowly. This isn’t a way for restless viewers. You just sit in your chair and take in the beautiful cinematography and the twisted atmosphere. You feel the movie builds up to something, but you don’t quite know what it builds up to. As a viewer, I wanted to find out how this would end. So Lamb is a movie that grabs your attention. For the most part, it feels like a twisted family drama.
The married couple does their daily chores, and they are taking care of their new, creepy kid. It doesn’t take long before it walks around on its two legs.
The married couple gets a visit from the husband’s brother. He’s a loser, and I suspected he would create problems of some sort. But is he a troublemaker?
So you feel that the black sheep in the family will cause problems. He’s hitting on his brother’s wife. And when he discovers that they have a creepy new family member, he has a hard time accepting it. And I can understand that.
The ending is pretty bizarre. This is a hard movie to review without spoiling anything. But it’s been a long time since I’ve experienced such a bizarre ending. It’s sort of fitting after what the wife did. But it’s still bizarre. Karma comes knocking on her door!
For the most part, Lamb has the script of a family drama movie. The family is happy, and it feels like you are watching a twisted commercial. Just look at the hybrid sheep/human! It could be a commercial for Lambi toilet paper! But something is wrong here, and you know something will happen.
The actors do a great job. They have great chemistry, and their characters aren’t irritating. They feel like normal people that are sad, and they find comfort when they can be parents to a hybrid sheep/human.
If you like strange movies that burn slowly, then Lamb is worth checking out. It’s a movie for those who are tired of generic movies. No one can say that this isn’t a strange movie.
