A student starts working for a call center through her school, and after a while, she is no longer among us. A police detective investigates the case, and she won’t like what she discovers.
“Next Sohee” is a long and depressing movie that sucks out your soul and spits on it. This is a movie that focuses on a system I don’t know anything about, so I don’t know how true this is.
However, the student signs a job contract with a call center where most of the students quit after working there for a short while. They have a deal with the schools, and other companies also hire students. But here comes the catch: the students don’t get paid what they expect, since the call center is run by a corrupt and dirty company. Even when they work overtime, they don’t get paid.
The school is not much of a help since they need to work with the companies to stay afloat, so the school is as guilty as the call center when the student says goodbye to the world.
This is such a sad movie where young people are exploited because they come from homes that don’t have the resources to fight back when the world takes advantage of their children.
In the first half, we follow the student and her life, while in the second half, we follow the female police detective who digs deeper into what’s going on. She finds out that the country she lives in hasn’t evolved as much as she would have liked, and that even if you scream out loud, there’s not much of a chance that anyone will care. I was expecting that she would go to a newspaper to spread what’s going on in her country, but this isn’t a movie that will give you any answers to what happened after the police detective finds out the truth.
The police detective sees herself in the dead student. There is a pretty funny scene when the police detective has had enough of the vice-principal and plants her fist in his stupid face. That felt so good for me as a viewer!
The acting is solid, and Bae Doona walks around as a drunk zombie who has no life inside her. The way she portrays her character is perfect with what you as a viewer are feeling while watching the movie. To hell with humanity!
Even though this is a solid movie, it’s way too long. It should have been 30 minutes shorter. This is such a depressing movie that makes you suffer watching the poor girl giving up on the world and the police detective who discovers the real world. But several scenes could have been trimmed or removed to let us suffer less and get a tight pace.
“Next Sohee” is a depressing movie that hits you hard in the face when a young student who has the future waiting for her, but the greed of a school that is supposed to take care and protect her fails because they are as rotten to the core as the call center she ends up working for. But the rot has spread further, which the police detective will discover when she follows the red thread.
