Once Upon a Time in China II var en gedigen skuffelse. Den første filmen er en av tidenes beste kampsportfilmer. Den hadde sin egen identitet, noe kampsportfilmer sliter med. Once Upon a Time in China II blir en standard kampsportfilm som ikke engasjerer i det hele tatt. Eneste høydepunktet er når Jet Li møter Donnie Yen, men selv ikke den kampen imponerer helt. Det flyter ikke helt, og det virker som om Tsui Hark ikke gadd å lage en kvalitetsfilm slik han gjorde med den første filmen i serien.

Once Upon a Time in China II er en langtekkelig film, og en standard kampsportfilm. Og hvorfor er Wong Fei Hung så uhøflig? Han er ikke til å kjenne igjen fra den eminente første filmen.
