The evil newspaper.
A man watches his daughter die when a truck hits the car she’s sitting in. Just before the truck hits the car, he finds a newspaper that shows him that his daughter died in the accident. After the accident, the evil newspaper terrorizes him by showing him the news of accidents and deaths before they happen. He and his ex-wife try to find out why the evil newspaper has chosen him, and how they can stop the evil newspaper. Can he stop the accidents and murders that are written in the evil newspaper, and if, what price does he have to pay?
Premonition is, of course, a slow burner of a Japanese thriller horror movie. I didn’t expect much of the movie, but I have to say that I enjoyed the ride and especially the last 30 minutes.
Before that, the plot moves at a snail’s pace, and I’m certain that the slow pace in the first 50 minutes will turn people off. But the last 30 minutes are entertaining. The quality takes a big leap in the last 30 minutes. It’s like watching a totally different movie.
The acting isn’t the best. There are several scenes with the man who is haunted by the evil newspaper that is cringe-worthy. He overreacts too much in emotional scenes, and when he pretends to be in shock. He brings out the laughter, but he gets better towards the end when he is confused and desperate. The actor who plays the man who stabs people to death is just awful. He should be arrested and put in actors’ jail together with Orlando Bloom.
The acting isn’t the best, but the investigation, and how the man is trying to prevent the accident that turned his life upside down is entertaining. That scene came out of nowhere, but it was entertaining. He has to make a choice, and his future doesn’t look that bright. Will he see the light?
