Rounders (1998)

Listen, here’s the thing. If you can’t spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker.

Pokerfilmer pleier å være interessante og spennende. Selv om Rounders er en forutsigbar film, er det fremdeles spenning knyttet til det siste spillet. Edward Norton viser at han en gang i tiden hadde energi som skuespiller. Han passer best som en selvdestruktiv idiot, og det er han i Rounders. Matt Damon er stødig og trår aldri feil. Jeg digger John Malkovich, men her har en irriterende aksent som dreper hele rollefiguren han spiller.

Det er et stort problem med Rounders, og det er at de sentrale rollefigurene er usympatiske og dumme som leker med skjebnen. Jeg sliter med å se filmer der rollefigurene er idioter og usympatiske. Det snur litt mot slutten med Matt Damon, men fremdeles var den vonde smaken i munnen der. Jeg likte filmen, men hvordan rollefigurene var konstruert, falt ikke helt i smak.

Rounders er en fin pokerfilm, men den har sine problemer.
