The Trip aka I onde dager (2021) – English Review

A married couple takes a cabin trip. The husband is planning to kill his wife, but someone gets in the way, and they are dangerous people.

I onde dager aka The Trip, is directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow 1 and 2, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters). In the lead roles, we find Aksel Hennie, Noomi Rapace, and Atle Antonsen.

You can sort of call I onde dager aka The Trip for a Norwegian Quentin Tarantino meets a Cohen brothers movie. Norwegian movies have been terrible in the last 5 years. I’m not sure what happened because we made a lot of great movies for a period. Suddenly the movie industry in Norway just died out of nowhere.

And we needed a movie like I onde dager aka The Trip. This is a crazy and violent ride that could remind me of a dark and brutal Quentin Tarantino and South Korean movie when they don’t hold back. In this movie, you will see some hard punches straight in the face.

Poor Aksel Hennie has to pay for the crime he was about to commit. But before he could finish the job, he ended up in hell. And he must clench those buttocks because someone wants to get in and pump him! Clench the buttocks, Hennie! Clench them!

If you have watched some movies Tommy Wirkola has directed, you know he loves dark humor. And he combines his dark humor with graphic violence that will satisfy most gorehounds. And it’s such a fun ride! It’s been a long time since I watched a movie with so much energy during the action scenes. This is a hard-hitting and brutal movie, but it’s also funny as hell!

Most foreigners won’t know who Atle Antonsen is. He’s the actor who plays the main villain. He’s a Norwegian comedian, and we don’t normally see him in a role like this. But he’s so great and sick in the head in this role.

The only thing I didn’t quite like was the homage to Deliverance. This is a long scene that is funny in the start before it becomes uncomfortable. And I didn’t quite like the way Aksel Hennie was acting in this long scene. I’m not a big fan of this actor. Unfortunately, he’s our international actor, and I don’t understand why he has gotten that role when we have so much better actors than him.

You don’t care about the characters in this movie. All of them are fucked up in the head. They are just terrible people. But that will not ruin your experience. As viewers, we are just here to take in the energy, the spectacle, and the humor.

If you like crazy movies with hard-hitting violence and humor, I onde dager aka The Trip, is one of the best movies you can watch in 2021. It has so much crazy energy when it wakes up after the long scene in the basement. I can guarantee you will sit and smile and enjoy the energy that comes out of the screen. Be prepared for a fun and violent ride! Fight forever!
