The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022) – English Review

Meet Nicolas Cage.

A rich man has invited Nicolas Cage to spend some time with him at his luxury mansion, and Nicolas Cage says yes to the invitation. He’s about to quit acting, and he needs a vacation. But when the airplane lands, the CIA makes contact with Nicolas Cage. They want Nicolas Cage to help them find a girl that the man who’s invited Nicolas Cage has kidnapped.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is an entertaining movie where Nicolas Cage plays himself. The movie feels like a copy of JCVD (2008), but it’s nowhere as dark and sincere as that movie.

We never get to know the real Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. We see Nicolas Cage channeling some characters he has played throughout his long career. So don’t expect the same movie and the fantastic monolog that Jean-Claude Van Damme had in JCVD.

The first hour is a little slow, but then the pace picks up when Nicolas Cage is the worst spy in the world when he drugs himself. Another funny sequence is when Nicolas Cage and his biggest fan have taken some drugs, and they believe they are being followed.

Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal have great chemistry. The things going on with the daughter and the ex-wife aren’t interesting. They are there to make Nicolas Cage feel guilty because he’s a selfish man who’s almost his own biggest fan. But the character played by Pedro Pascal is even a bigger fan of Nicolas Cage.

If you are a fan of Nicolas Cage, you should watch The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. But don’t expect the same dark and more personal movie as JCVD (2008).
